Choosing a quality parrot companion is about much more than price alone. Here at Flying Colors Aviary and Flamingo Pride Aviary, we produce babies that our Clients will have for a lifetime! To give our babies a great start in life, we only feed the parents the best foods. Seed, some pellets, lots of fresh veggies and fruits, and good home cooked foods. A large percentage of our babies are raised by their parents. This gives them a good start and life, and makes it possible for us to have a life outside of home and our aviary. The few percent that we raise from day one, they are raised with a snuggle buddy (a stuffed animal of appropriate size) until they are large enough to be kept with other babies with out the fear or issue of hurting each other. Most large macaws are left with the parents until they are around 3 - 4 weeks old, with the smaller birds staying with mom and dad, or foster parents until around 2 weeks. We feel it is better for a bird to be raised form day one with another bird, versus a sterile brooder. There is something about a mother birds touch that makes the birds so wonderful. I don't mean that our day one babies are not wonderful. When it comes to weaning, all babies are out on play gyms, with fresh fruits and veggies, along with seeds and some pellets are available. They are allowed to interact with other weaning babies. This allows them to act like birds. WE DO NOT CLIP THE WINGS OF BABIES UNTIL THEY ARE FULLY WEANED. There is something about babies that have had their wings clipped right when they start to fly. Us personally, we feel that something is not right. Our opinions are that babies are learning to fly in the wild when they are weaning. This is an important issue with Cockatoos and African Greys. These guys seem to wean a lot easier when they are learning to and allowed to fly. We attempt to socialize the babies with every situation, however, being that we are a closed aviary, it is hard to socialize to every person or situation. However, our babies are used to cats, dogs, children (when possible), household appliances, etc., when they leave us. While we know that there are people cheaper than us, we cannot help the fact that our babies are some of the best that you will ever play with or own. Our price reflects the quality of the babies that we raise. All this information considered, if you have any question, please do not hesitate to send us an e-mail. We will get back to you as soon as possible with answers to all of your questions.
