No other birds in the parrot
world have such subtle beauty, than the Pionus. While most of the
species are not brightly colored, they pack a punch with personality.
These relatively quiet birds are great for apartment dwellers, or a person
who does not want a "noisy" bird. We raise 3 species of the Pionus.
The Bronze Winged, Dusky, and Blue Headed. Though the Bronze Winged
and Dusky Pionus are fairly uncommon, there are aviaries that produce them.
Blue Headed , in my opinion are the most striking with their electric blue
heads. The Bronze Winged are phenomenal with their metallic colored
wings, and the dusky...they have their own beauty with their delicate pinkis/purple
breast. Diet for these guys is rather simple. While we do not feed a lot of pellets, the use of some pelleted foods is advocated for vitamin consumption. Our pionus are fed a diet of seed, pellets, cooked beans and rice, birdie bread, sprouted seed and fresh fruits and veggies. Our pionus are fruit and veggie pigs, so the bulk of their diet is fresh fruits and vegetables. Our guys thrive on this and do very well with producing quality babies! |
